Rodney’s Story
Barber. Mentor. Beloved community member.
Rodney Taylor is a Black immigrant, husband, and community member currently detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, Georgia. Rodney has been held in ICE custody for over a year, where his health has significantly deteriorated due to ongoing medical neglect and inhumane conditions.
Rodney is a double amputee who requires ADA accommodations to access basic daily necessities. Despite his visible and documented disability, he has repeatedly been denied adequate support, including access to proper hygiene facilities, mobility accommodations, and consistent medical care.
During his detention, Rodney has reported falling, injuring his right hand, being subjected to solitary confinement, weight loss, and overall physical decline. He has submitted multiple requests for medical attention, including urgent requests over the past several weeks, yet has not received timely or adequate care.
Most recently, Rodney was informed by his deportation officer that ICE has obtained travel documents for his removal and is awaiting clearance to deport him—an escalation that places his life at even greater risk given his current medical condition. Rodney’s deportation to Liberia, despite lifelong U.S. ties, raises profound concerns about belonging, citizenship, and racialized displacement.
Rodney’s case reflects broader systemic failures within immigration detention, particularly for individuals with disabilities. His continued detention—despite serious medical needs and documented neglect—raises urgent legal and human rights concerns.
Our Demands
We are demanding that the Atlanta ICE Field Office and Stewart Detention Center act now to
#FREERODNEY
We call for an immediate release so Rodney can be reunited with his family and get the medical attention he desperately requires.
Rodney has survived violence, racism, and abuse while in detention and should be released to be able to access community and medical support. He is in an extremely vulnerable situation, given the realities of his health and the criminalization that Black migrants face while detained.
Rodney needs immediate medical attention to address his rapidly declining health. He belongs at home with his family, community, and loved ones, not in Liberia, where he hasn't been for decades, and certainly not in a cage where his life is continuously at risk every day. ICE is set on continuing the violence and torture that Rodney is facing inside, despite the urgency of his need for release for his safety and survival!
Please take action, by demanding that Rodney be released from immigration detention and reunited with his family in Atlanta. #FreeRodneyTaylor #FreeThemAll #EndDetention #ReleasesNotTransfers.

"Hello, my name is [Name], and I am a constituent from [City/Zip].
I am calling to urge [ Target Name] to take urgent action in the case of Rodney Taylor, a detained disabled black immigrant from Liberia.
Rodney Taylor, a long-time resident of the U.S since the age of 2 and a double amputee, has recently been issued travel documents for removal to Liberia.
His U.S citizen wife and 7 children have been greatly affected by his detention for over a year now, and are worried as his health continues to rapidly deteriorate with disregard at Stewart Detention Center.
Mr. Taylor’s health issues include not having properly calibrated prosthetic legs, needing new linings for the prosthetics, not being able to charge the prosthetics as needed, high blood pressure and, as of late last year, bone spurs in his back. The lack of silicone linings has caused boils. His right hand is missing three fingers, so using a wheelchair is not accessible.
At present, Mr. Taylor is experiencing severe pain related to his condition, new diagnosis of bone spurs during his detention, and is also currently ill with the flu. He is having to crawl through mold, food, feces, and other bodily fluids just to access a shower. His removal to Liberia under these circumstances is inhumane and would pose serious risks to his health and well-being.
Given the urgency of the situation, we are demanding Rodney’s immediate release from detention and approval of his medical and disability assessment and accommodations.
Thank you for your time and consideration
